Mazinaw Water Levels - Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority report Information from the MVCA

Here are excerpts from the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority report, which was sent to the MPOA:

April 21:  Mazinaw Lake / Little Marble and Marble Lakes– levels increased by approximately 30 cm overnight and are expected to increase another 5 to 10 cm over the next 24 hours. Confidence in the overall increase amounts in that area is low due to the uncertainty of the total amounts of rainfall received. Outflows from Mazinaw Lake increased sharply overnight and severe flooding is expected or occurring on Little Marble and Marble Lakes. Water levels are expected to peak tomorrow and begin dropping by mid-week. Areas downstream of these lakes will see levels and flows pick up quickly over the next 48 hours.

April 23, 2019 — The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority is issuing an update to the FLOOD WARNING for the entire MISSISSIPPI RIVER watershed issued April 21, 2019. Severe flood levels are expected be reached at numerous locations:  Mazinaw Lake / Little Marble / Marble Lakes– levels have stabilized on Mazinaw Lake and are expected to begin dropping tomorrow barring any significant rainfall overnight.  As levels on Mazinaw Lake begin to recede so will levels on Little Marble and Marble Lakes. Water levels are expected to be close to summer levels by the end of the week.

April 25, 2019 — The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority is issuing an update to the FLOOD WARNING for the entire MISSISSIPPI RIVER watershed issued April 23, 2019. Significant rainfall is forecasted for tomorrow but the amount of precipitation from that system is uncertain, with a range of 20 to 50 mm. This could result in levels increasing depending on where and how much rain occurs. Winds are forecasted to be strong tomorrow and Saturday which will lead to wave run-up and erosion.

Mazinaw Lake / Little Marble / Marble Lakes:  Levels continue to drop but not as quickly as expected. Wind will cause wave issues on these lakes and potential for shoreline erosion is high. Water levels are expected to be close to summer levels by the middle of next week.
 

April 26, 2019 — The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority is issuing an update to the FLOOD WARNING for the entire MISSISSIPPI RIVER watershed issued April 25, 2019.  Significant rainfall is forecasted for Friday but the amount of precipitation from that system is uncertain, with a range of 20 to 50 mm. This could result in levels increasing depending on where and how much rain occurs. Winds are forecasted to be strong Friday and Saturday which will lead to wave run-up and erosion.

April 27, 2019 — The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority is issuing an update to the FLOOD WARNING for the entire MISSISSIPPI RIVER watershed issued April 25, 2019

Rainfall amounts between 10 and 20 mm fell across the watershed yesterday. While not having a significant impact on flood areas at this time
, it has slowed down the rate of decline in many areas, particularly in the western portion of the watershed.

Mazinaw Lake / Little Marble / Marble Lakes:  Levels continue to drop but not as quickly as expected and remain extremely high. Winds could cause wave issues on these lakes and potential for shoreline erosion is high.

April 29, 2019The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority is issuing an update to the FLOOD WARNING for the entire MISSISSIPPI RIVER watershed issued April 27, 2019.  LEVELS IN ALL AREAS OF THE WATERSHED
HAVE BEGUN TO DECLINE. WHILE THIS IS POSITIVE NEWS, THERE IS SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL IN THE FORECAST FOR WEDNESDAY THAT COULD IMPACT SOME AREAS.


Mazinaw Lake / Little Marble / Marble Lakes:   Levels on Mazinaw Lake have been declining steadily and stoplogs have been put back in the dam which will lower water in Little Marble and Marble Lakes. Current
rainfall predictions are not expected to cause levels to increase significantly.

May 1, 2019 — The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority is issuing an update to the FLOOD WARNING for the ENTIRE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WATERSHED issued April 27, 2019.  LEVELS IN ALL AREAS OF THE WATERSHEDHAVE BEGUN TO DECLINE. WHILE THIS IS POSITIVE NEWS, THERE IS RAINFALL IN THE FORECAST FOR TODAY THAT COULD IMPACT SOME AREAS.

Mazinaw Lake / Little Marble / Marble Lakes:   Levels on Mazinaw, Little Marble and Marble Lakes are continuing to decline.  Current rainfall forecasts are not expected to increase levels. As a result, the FLOOD WARNING for this area has been downgraded to a FLOOD WATCH.
