Update: Barrie Fire Hall to the source to comment on a rumour

Arndt Kruger, President of the MPOA wrote to Ron Higgins, NF Mayor:  "an issue has come to our attention that could possibly affect all residents on our lake,  and many neighbouring lakes and hamlets. It concerns the rumours about possible cut backs or even a possibly closure of the Barry Township Fire Station on Highway 41. There is no doubt in the mind of the MPOA that keeping this fire station open and well furnished with up-to-date equipment is vital for the western region of the NF township as well as the adjacent eastern regions of AH.  As we read, you, as mayor, have replaced an NF council member on the joint committee governing the fire fighting between the two townships.  We hope to see this in a positive light and assume that you in your influential role will strongly support the modernization of all the necessary fire fighting equipment and the maintenance of the fire station at your meeting on April 7, 2017. The board of directors of the MPOA and all our members are looking forward to supporting you in this direction.

With best regards

Arndt Kruger
President, Mazinaw Property Owners’ Association

Below is the response from Ron Higgins, NF Mayor:

Barrie Township Fire Station

I hate rumours as they cause anxiety and cause us to have to drop what we are doing and spend unneeded resource time trying to address a rumour. The rumour is simply not true and probably stems from North Frontenac requesting a joint Council meeting with Addington Highlands to address some budget concerns and the joint fire agreement. We would never do anything that would have a negative impact to our service delivery for health and safety or any other service delivery requirement. I do have some issues I want to discuss with both Councils which is happening this coming Friday. The reason I want to address these  issues is to ensure the KB fire department has the equipment, training and resources to ensure we are providing the expected level of service delivery today and into the future, which aligns with the needs of your association, as you have pointed out. This also gives you another example of key items we review and need to address during the budget process.

In summary North Frontenac Council and staff have been, and will continue to be, diligent in managing our finances and sustain our service delivery requirements"...."I hope this clarifies some issues for you  and your association members and that you realize we make all of our decisions based on need and  the level/quality of service in a fiscal and responsible manner. Please do not let rumours fester and have anyone contact the office to ask for clarification of a potential rumour. Also know we try to be as transparent as possible and will be enhancing that transparency through social media tools we will be launching soon."

Respectively,

Ron Higgins

Mayor, North Frontenac

Deputy Warden, County of Frontenac
