May update Black flies...

Well fellow cottagers, I have been up at the lake since May 8th (today is the 14th) and loving it.

Last weekend crazy men Terry Jones and Ted McRae went waterskiing.  The water was freeeeezing but they were stoked to get a jump on the season.  I was the spotter and they entertained me with their amazing water skiing abilities!

The black fly report:  I can happily say that I've only been bitten once!  When we arrived, the black flies were just arriving themselves and for the next couple of days, they weren't biting (phew).  They are quite plentiful at the moment.  At Brown's campground I'm told they are bad but thankfully, where my cottage is located, the wind has helped to keep them at bay.  I think they will be here for a couple of weeks.  We need a couple of really hot days and the arrival of the dragonflies to get rid of them.  Update (May 25):  The hot weather was here for the long weekend (what a gorgeous weekend!) and the black flies weren't too bad...however they were terrible May 25th when the breeze died.  I don't think we are done with them for another few weeks!  The dragonflies have arrived and are buzzing around...go dragonflies!!!

The loons are back, which are always amazing...as are the hummingbirds. I'm loving being able to sit on my dock and see the lake! Last night we were serenaded by some howling in the distance, a loon call and an owl hooting.

Beware of floating objects as you drive your boat.  I went for a kayak ride and brought two huge logs that were floating just under the water.
