Barrie Township fire hall just outside Cloyne on Hwy 41 Latest information

Recently, I'd heard a rumour that the NF township was considering abandoning the Barrie Township fire hall just outside Cloyne, on Highway 41.  Given this would greatly disadvantage our MPOA members, cottagers and permanent residents of the western regions of NF and Addington Highlands, I wrote to Cheryl Robinson, the Chief Administrative Officer in the NF township. Here is the response provided by Cheryl:

"NF Council has not discussed abandoning the Barrie Fire Hall in Cloyne (owned and maintained by the Township of North Frontenac); however, they do want to ensure the Joint Fire Department (between NF and AH) has a funded Asset Management Plan in place to ensure they are sustainable for the future; that the Department has the proper equipment, volunteers and training in place to provide the Core Services set by both Councils in the Establishing and Regulating By-law."..."On February February 24, 2017 our Council has requested a Joint Councils Meeting with Addington Highlands Council, to discuss approval of the Kaladar-Barrie Fire Department’s draft Budget for 2017.  This meeting has been confirmed for April 7th."

I plan to follow up after April 7th so that we can all be rest assured the budget for our valued fire services is in place for 2017.

Arndt,
MPOA President
