News:  Province seeks to consolidate 36 regional conservation authorities

The Province is proposing to merge the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) into a much larger St. Lawrence Regional Conservation Authority (ERO 025-1257) as part of an amalgamation of 36 Conservation Authorities.

For the information of Mazinaw Property Owners, the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) monitors our water quality and meets with the MPOA to discuss changes, implications and actions.  They've been a great source to educate us on important topics including invasive species identification and prevention. They monitor our water levels and our dam. We rely on the MVCA as an important strategic partner.

Many of us are concerned that this proposed almalgamation might weaken the strong local focus and relationships that help protect our lakes, rivers, and wetlands. The MVCA understands our watershed—something that could be lost in a larger regional structure.

Here’s a link to the provincial website where you are able to read more about the proposal and make your views known on this issue:  https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-1257

I am a Mazinaw Lake property owner and I oppose the proposed consolidation of the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority into the St. Lawrence Regional Conservation Authority. The MVCA’s local expertise and relationships are vital to protecting our watershed. Please reconsider this plan and maintain a structure that keeps decision-making local and responsive.

Protecting the health of our lakes depends on keeping watershed management local, informed, and accountable. Thank you!
